Read MoreOur driving passion is to follow the LORD’s call to fulfill the Great Commission “to share Christ” and the Great Commandment “to show love.” The GC2 Movement among Texas Baptists combines the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. It’s about loving God and others while making disciples.
The Great Commission
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
The Greatest Commandment
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40 (NIV)

First Baptist Church was organized in April of 1869 with 11 members. It was originally named Hearne Station Baptist Church. In 1877, on land donated by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the first Worship Center was built. By 1888, FBC had 103 members and in 1907 a cornerstone was laid for a new auditorium and the name First Baptist Church was adopted. In 1953, a new education building was built and FBC reached its peak membership in 1958 with 1170 members. The current Worship Center was built in 1966 and in 1988 a Family Life Center was added across the street from the main church. Since November of 2016, James Hooper has served as FBC pastor. In April of 2024, the church celebrated its 155th Anniversary. FBC Hearne continues to faithfully stand and proclaim the priceless treasure of God's word and share with others the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Friendship Class
The Friendship Class at First Baptist Church in Hearne is a great place to study life skills through God's word. All ladies, regardless of age, are welcome. The members genuinely love each other and hold each other up in prayer. We have held fund raising projects tor scholarships to youth camp and preteen camp, and in the past we have "adopted" a family at Christmas and provided gifts for the children.
The Friendship Class is taught by Betty Gregurek.
"I joined the Friendship Class upon moving to Hearne in 1985, and have had the joy of teaching the class for over 20 years. Sister class members are some of my closest friends. Teaching duties are shared by our pastor's wife, Judy Hooper, who does a wonderful job. Along with Bettie Bowman, I head up our church's widows group. We try to have a fellowship monthly gathering, welcoming and befriending ladies who have lost their husbands."
Grace & Truth Class
Grace and Truth is an interactive class for women of all ages who enjoy study of the Bible, book by book. Using study guides from reliable, gospel-centered sources, we consider what the text would have meant to it’s original audience, what it means to us always, and how we can apply it to our lives now. Beginning and ending class with prayer, we delve into the Word of God with hearts and minds open to His guidance.
Carla Dileo is the teacher of the Grace & Truth class and has been a member of FBC Hearne since 2009. After co-teaching the Ladies Friendship class for several years, the Grace and Truth class was born out of a need to expand the Sunday School program due to church growth and Carla’s love for the Word of God and her desire to share that love with others. Carla is married and has two children and three grandchildren.
We have a community of men who seek to grow in their faith and become leaders in their families, workplace, and church. Bible Study class meets every Sunday morning at the Family Life Center across from the church. In addition, there is a Men's Prayer Breakfast on the first Saturday of every month at 8 am.
Come and join us on Sunday mornings from 9 am to 9:40 am for a time of social gathering and fellowship. After that, we study the word of God.
The Men's Bible Study Class is currently being taught by several members of the class on a rotating basis. We have men of all ages, you are "not too young or not too old" to be a part of this class. See you Sunday!
